According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in April 2026, China imported 1.085 million metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 21.4%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (864,000 metric tons, accounting for 79.7%); and Australia (218,000 metric tons, accounting for 20.1%). In April, China exported 25,000 metric tons of raw salt, an increase of 6.6% year-on-year. The main export destinations were: South Korea (8,000 metric tons, accounting for 31.3%); Ghana (3,000 metric tons, accounting for 12.0%); and the Philippines (3,000 metric tons, accounting for 11.9%).
From January to April 2026, China imported 4.853 million metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 9.6%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (3.789 million metric tons, accounting for 78.1%); Australia: 1.052 million tons, accounting for 21.7%; Pakistan: 0.012 million tons, accounting for 0.3%. From January to April, China exported 228,000 tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 12.5%. Major export destinations for raw salt were: Japan: 132,000 tons, accounting for 57.8%; South Korea: 30,000 tons, accounting for 13.3%; Ghana: 10,000 tons, accounting for 4.2%.
