According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs, in March 2026, China imported 1.319 million metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 5.4%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (1.012 million metric tons, accounting for 76.7%); and Australia (303,000 metric tons, accounting for 22.9%). In March, China exported 17,000 metric tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 42.6%. The main export destinations were: South Korea (6,000 metric tons, accounting for 33.6%); Honduras (2,000 metric tons, accounting for 11.4%); and the Republic of the Congo (2,000 metric tons, accounting for 11.3%).
From January to March 2026, China imported 3.767 million tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 5.6%. The main sources of raw salt imports were: India (2.924 million tons, accounting for 77.6%); Australia (833,000 tons, accounting for 22.1%); and Pakistan (10,000 tons, accounting for 0.3%). From January to March, China exported 203,000 tons of raw salt, a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%. The main destinations for raw salt exports were: Japan (130,000 metric tons, accounting for 63.9%); South Korea (22,000 metric tons, accounting for 11.1%); and Vietnam (7,000 metric tons, accounting for 3.4%).
